Be Ready

In the wake of the mass killing of innocent victims at the club in Orlando, Florida; this event should have awaken us to the fact that this act of terror can happen anytime and anywhere.  There was the incident last year at the church in South Carolina.  This too was an act of terror.  We should consider that we are no longer safe from terrorism.   In this awareness, how are we to live our lives?  Are we ready to meet our Lord with open arms?  God forbid any of us should fall victim to this type of crime.

None of us knows the date and time we will leave this earth whether by our passing or via our Savior’s coming.  Therefore we are to live in a state of readiness.  Luke12: 39, 40 reads:  But know this that if the Master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.  Verse 40:  Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

If we are expecting a friend or a family member to visit us, and we are not sure of the time of his or her arrival we will remain on the lookout.   We will continue our activities, and our ears will be listening for the call.  This is how our Lord wants us to be - always on the lookout for Him.  If we knew the day and the hour our Savior would come, many of us would wait until the time is near, and then engage ourselves in His service.   Thank the Lord He did not give us this information.   We do not know when our Lord is coming.  We do not know when we will pass on from this earth.   We have to work while it is day.  The night comes when no one can work.

We are to prepare ourselves for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:  Remain in confession of our sins as they occur, and as the Holy Spirit brings them to our attention.  Give thanks to God for all things.  For this is His will concerning us.  Pray without ceasing.  Read His Word constantly, daily no less, three times a day if you can.  The Word of God is our mirror.  Meditate therein.  If we practice these things, we will stay close to our Lord.  He in turn will stay close to us.  When our Savior arrives for us via His coming in the air or via our passing on, we will be ready and awaiting His arrival.

How do we prepare our behaviors for our Lord’s coming?  Our behavior shows us the attitude of our hearts.     We are to pay attention to our behaviors and our attitudes and confess any sinful behaviors or motives to our Lord Jesus Christ.  Through confessing our sins to our Lord Jesus and asking for strength to do His will, we will triumph over our behaviors.   Just as our Lord and Savior did only those things that please His Father – our Father, likewise we should pray to do the same.
