He Is Risen As He Said

In the Gospel according to Matthew chapter 28, Matthew gave his account of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead.   He said, the first day after the Sabbath – the Sabbath after Jesus’ crucifixion -  at the dawning of the day,  Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb where Jesus laid.  Instead they saw an angel, who said to them, “He is not here;  for He is risen as He said.”  “Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”    “And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, …..”  As they were going Jesus met them on the road.  They fell at His feet and worshipped Him. V9.

In the Gospel according to Mark chapter 16, Mark adds that the women had brought spices to anoint Jesus’ body.  Mark repeats the same message given by the angel.  “He is risen!”  “He is not here.”  “See the place where they laid him.” 

In the Gospel according to Luke chapter 24, Luke mentioned there were two angels present and several women.  The same message was delivered, “He is not here, but is risen!”  The angel reminded them how Jesus had told them he “must be delivered, crucified and the third day rise again”.  The women  remembered Jesus’ words.  Later in the day Jesus appeared to two of His followers as they travelled to Emmaus. When they reached their destination, they invited Jesus to stay with them.  He sat to dine with them, and as He was giving thanks for the meal, they recognized Him and He disappeared out of their sight.   Right away the two got up and returned to Jerusalem.  They told the disciples their experience, how Jesus had walked with them on the way to Emmaus.  They learned that Jesus had also appeared to Peter.  While they were together, most likely, discussing, wondering and remembering Jesus’ words, Jesus appeared in their midst and said “Peace to you.”  Jesus asked them, “Have you any food here?”  “So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish.” Verses 41-43.  The Lord Jesus was proving His authenticity to His disciples and to those gathered that He was indeed alive.

In John’s Gospel, Mary Magdalene saw two angels.  She also saw Jesus and He spoke to her.   That same Sunday evening Jesus appeared to the twelve.   Eight days later Jesus appeared again in the midst of the disciples where they were gathered.  In John chapter 21 Simon Peter and some of the disciples went fishing with Peter in the Sea of Tiberias.  They tried fishing throughout the night and did not catch a fish.  In the morning, they saw a man on the seashore.  He told them to cast their nets on the other side of the ship.  Then they realized it was Jesus.  When they came to shore, Jesus had prepared breakfast for them.   Again, Jesus is showing Peter and those who were with him that He is indeed alive.  (And He knows how to cook as well).

Luke chapter 24 verse 50 tells us, “He led them out as far as Bethany, He lifted up His hands and blessed them.  While blessing them, He was carried up into heaven.  Five hundred of His followers saw Jesus all at once after His resurrection.

Stephen saw Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father, as he was being stoned to death.  Jesus spoke to Saul from heaven when he was on his way to Damascus to persecute the Christians there.   Paul testifies that he saw Jesus in 1 Corinthians 15:8.  John saw Jesus on the Isle of Patmos.  Jesus spoke to him and said in Revelation 1: 17, 18:  “Do not be afraid;  I am the First and the Last.  “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold I am alive forever more.  Amen.  And I have the keys of hades and of death.”


Jesus is alive and He is coming again to receive us unto Himself that where He is there we will be also.  John 14: 3

Giving Thanks

Giving thanks is always a bit difficult.  The Lord Jesus when He was here on earth once healed ten lepers, and only one returned to give Him thanks.  I do not know about you, but sometimes I do not feel like saying “thank you”.  Sometimes I forget to say thank you to the person holding the door for me to step into a building.   Giving thanks always – means all of the time – no excuses, no forgetfulness, no apprehensions.  It takes effort and discipline to always say thanks. The Three In One in Our Daily Living

God – Father Son and Holy Spirit is involved in our living out our salvation.  When I awake in the morning the first thing I do is pray.   The Holy Spirit is there in my praying to get it right for me.  Romans 8:26 tells us:  “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.  For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought , but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.    The Holy Spirit intercedes for us on behalf of our prayers.  Many a time we cannot express what we are feeling or thinking as we desire.  Our minds are twisted by our negative experiences, the untruths we have been told, the sinful ways we perceived in ourselves and others, our sinful acts that we have committed and are committing.  All of these experiences and actions helped shape our thinking.  The Holy Spirit cuts through all of our fog, and He knows what we should be saying to God, and He communi...

Love - The overriding factor

Love not hate.   Christians – born from above are called to love one another and to love the peoples of the world; just as God has loved us and as He loves the entire human race.    We are to be known as Christ ones because of our love for everyone.  Please let us believers and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ not be influence by the voices that are around us today.  We know there are injustices and inequalities in our society.  Truly in every society in the world the same exist.  Life is of God.  No one can exist outside of God’s breath of life.  That means every human life, no matter the skin tone, is valuable and precious in God’s sight, and should be as well in ours.    God shows us in 1Corinthians 13 what love looks like and what love is not.  Verse 1- 3 warns us about the nature of our works (after we have accepted God's salvation).
