Hold Fast What You Have …..
“Till I come.” Revelation 2:25 As believers in Jesus Christ, what do we
have in our grasp?
We have the
confession of our faith. Let us hold
onto our confession. Our confession of
our salvation: “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord
Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved.” “For with the heart one
believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.” Romans 10: 9, 10 “But as many as receive Him, to them He gave the
right to become children of God, to those who believe in His Name.” John 1:12.
Our confession to the
world: “….That Christ died for our
sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose
again the third day according to the scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 Jesus is the Christ – the Sent One, who came
to redeem the world unto His Father . We have to hold firmly our confession. We have to hold sacred our confession.
Confession of our
hope - “Hold fast the confession of our hope without
wavering.” Hebrews 10:23. The confession
of our hope is the return of our Lord Jesus Christ to take us with Him. Our Lord Jesus promised to come back for us in John 14:
2-3. Verse 3 states: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I
will come again and receive you to Myself that where I am, there you may be
also.” Jesus is the Truth. He speaks truth. We can rest assured our Lord Jesus is
returning for us. Hold onto this
truth. Live by it!
Righteousness -
Job declared in Job 27:6: “My
righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go ….” We have the righteousness of God, and we are
to hold unto it by practicing righteousness.
The more we live righteously, the more we will enjoy living righteously
as we see the results of our righteous living.
Repentance -
With righteous living comes repentance.
“Hold fast and repent”. This
message was given to the church in Sardis. Revelation 3:3. The Church was also told to “remember how you
received and heard”. In Isaiah 46:9 God
calls on Israel to “remember the former things of old ….” As we go through the various phases of living
life, we usually forget some things along the way that once were important to
us. Activities that meant a great deal
to us that helped us to move on to the next phase or level in our living.
The Lord is calling
on us to remember and hold onto these good habits, such as reading our Bible
every day. For some, not just reading ,
but also spending time meditating and praying over the Word. Some of you once prayed every morning. Now with the activities and responsibilities
of family life, and career you cannot find the time to pray. God is calling you to repent and return. Remember when you heard and received the
gospel , how enthusiastic you were. You
never missed your church services or activities. Repent and reclaim your enthusiasm. It takes effort to live the Christian
life. Do not give up, but hold
fast. Repent and keep on moving
forward. God is with you. “For it is God who works in you both to will
and to do for His good pleasure.” Phillippians 2:13
Good Works - “…..Hold fast what is good” 1 Thessalonians
5:21. We are saved unto good works. Let us see that we do good deeds - acts of
kindnesses. Hold fast what is good. Let
go of the evil. The Church in Thyatira had works, love,
service, faith and patience. The love of
God is spread abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. We have love.
We can love. Our Lord Jesus
commands us “… to love one another as I have loved you.”John 15:12.
Let us
hold on firmly to what we have in Christ.
Jesus is coming soon.
