Be An OverComer
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches. To him who overcomes, I will
give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of
God.” Revelation 2:7
Jesus said in Matthew 13:9: “He who has ears to hear, let
him hear!” Here in Revelations chapters two and three
Jesus is saying the Spirit is speaking to the churches. Individuals make up the churches, so it
becomes personal, he /she who hears.
Whoever is willing to hear – listen to the Spirit of God. We are to listen to the Spirit of God as He
speaks to us in His Word. We are to
listen as the Spirit speaks to us through the preachers and teachers of the
Word, and through whomever the Lord sends in our path. We are to listen to the Spirit as He speaks
to us in our daily living. Whoever is willing to hear, pay
attention. We must hold on to what we hear
the Spirit says to us. If we allow what
we hear to slip away from our minds and our hearts, we will miss the blessing
God intended for us.
There is always a blessing awaiting us when we listen and
obey God. We cannot overcome our
weaknesses, our frailties, our trials, tribulations, temptations without the
Spirit of God. We are powerless to do
so. It is the Spirit of God who causes us
to overcome. We need the Holy Spirit actively working in our lives and
empowering us to overcome through faith and with our obedience to Him.
God’s rewards for our obedience to Him are always
awesome. “To eat from the tree of life,
which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”
How awesome is that!! It is far better
than visiting or living on Mars – if we can ever get there.
Here are more promises for the over-comer: “ He
who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” Revelation 2:11
“To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna
to eat. And I will give him a white
stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who
receives it.” Revelation 2:17
“And he who overcomes and keeps my works until the end, to
him I will give power over the nations.” Rev 2:26. Verse 28:
And I will give him the morning star.”
The Lord Jesus is the Morning Star.
Revelation 3:5: “ He who overcomes shall be clothed in white
garments and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I will
confess his name before my Father and before His angels.”
Verse 12: “He who
overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go
out no more. I will write on him the
name of my God and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which
comes down out of heaven from My God.
And I will write on him my new name.”
Verse 21: “To him who
overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat
down with my Father on His throne.”
Wow!!! What an awesome
list of promises, and the promises are offered to all individuals within the
churches. Revelations 3:22 “He who has
an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Our Lord Jesus is
giving us plenty of incentives to become an over-comer. All we have to do is listen and obey the
Holy Spirit; which is not always easy, because we have our own will.
However, our Lord Jesus said in John 16:33: ……. “In the world you will have
tribulation; but be of good cheer, I
have overcome the world.” Our Lord Jesus
overcame Satan and his temptations in the wilderness. He
overcame Satan every day of His life
here in this earth. He overcame the
betrayal and the cruelty of men and He went to the cross triumphantly. He died to pay our redemption and God raised
Him from the dead victoriously. Jesus
said in Revelations 1:18 “I am He who
lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen.
And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. Our Savior Jesus Christ is The Over-comer,
and He wants us to be over-comers as well here in this world.
“Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world”, Jesus
said. It is doable. As the songwriter wrote, “Trust and obey, for
there is no other way…..” We have to
trust our Lord Jesus with our lives. If
we do not trust Him, we will not give over our circumstances to Him. We will struggle on our own or on the advice of others, and we will fail.
Become an over-comer
in your daily living!
