The Love of Christ
The love of Jesus Christ, what does
His love look like - a baby lying in a manger?
Imagine if you will. The
God of the universe in the body of a baby lying in a manger of hay in a small
town called Bethlehem over 2000 years ago. Wasn’t that extremely inhibitive? The God, who created us, The One through whom everything that have life
exist. Heb1:2 Jesus
Christ came in the form of a human being, a helpless baby. He was confined to the limitations of a
baby. He came not speaking or walking. (Being God, most likely He knew what was
going on around Him.)
What
love? Jesus Christ did not come on this earth as a
man. God the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ wanted Jesus to experience this human life. To be
truly able to identify with the human race, Jesus was conceived in Mary’s womb by
the Holy Spirit, and His human life progressed from there. Being God, He may have been aware of His
life in the womb. Imagine Jesus reaching
out to His Father from within Mary’s womb.
That would have been awesome! The
Lord Jesus Christ truly sacrificed Himself to be in the womb of Mary.
What
love?
What humility!! Jesus Christ living the life of a human baby. Imagine the Creator cooing, making baby
smiles, grimaces and crying – yet without sin.
Awesome! Maybe He started walking at eleven
months. His steps would have been
wobbly. God in human flesh trying to
walk; isn’t that amazing? I wouldn’t
think Jesus just got up one day and walked.
God is too gracious to rob Mary of such precious moments of watching her
baby trying to walk. It might have been fun for Jesus as well. A
toddler explores. He/she makes his/her
way through the maze which is called home.
The toddler tastes everything in his reaches. The toddler learns through touching, tasting,
listening and observing. Jesus’ toddler
experience may well have been more of a proving process rather than a learning
one.
As a hymn writer penned: “The love of God is greater far then tongue
or pen can ever tell….” The Creator
came to earth in the form of the human being to live, to experience the human
life, to serve and to die. He came and
mingled, and interacted with us. God in
the flesh, and it was for one purpose. He
came to reconcile us to a loving relationship with His Father and Himself, as
is written in 1John 1:3. The Gospel of John 3:16 tells us, “ For God so loved
the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall
not perish, but have everlasting life”.
God’s love for us enabled Jesus
Christ to humble Himself to the confinement of a baby’s body. What a contrast from his home in heaven, where
myriads of angels worshipped Him. Yet
Jesus gave it all up to live the life of a human being and ultimately to die on
a cross. The Lord Jesus loved His Father
and the human race so much, that He gave up eternity for a while and came into
time. Time with all of its inhibitions,
yet He mastered time. From a baby, to
a boy growing up – the teenage years – growing into a man, and having to deal
with sinful people in a fallen world. Then
to the cross where He died the sinner’s death, paid
the penalty for sin for Adam’s race and God the Father raised Him from the dead.
Now He is at the Father’s right hand in
heaven interceding on our behalf.
He ministered to and served His
creation- the human race - for three and a half years. He lived on earth thirty three years. Who could have accomplished what He accomplished
in such a short time? The Lord Jesus Christ conquered time. (The cry of the human heart today, so much to
do, so little time to do it.) Do you see
the love of God shining through the Lord Jesus Christ? Is
there any greater love than this? John 15:13
Our Lord Jesus Christ made a
tremendous sacrifice for us and He did it all because of love for His Father
and His love for us. Who then can
separate us from His love? Can anyone
or anything? No! We are secure in His love. Romans 8:35-39
