Prosperity in 2013

Everyone desires to be prosperous in whatever he or she does. Psalm 1 gives us the formula for prosperity. It starts out with some don’ts, and I wondered why. Then I realized it is easier for us to pursue the don’ts and we do feel good when we can say. I am not doing this or I am not doing that. However, pursuing the positive behaviors takes energy and discipline. It can be like climbing mountainous terrain; which takes effort and will to accomplish the task.

Psalm 1:1 states: “Blessed is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Nor stands in the way of sinners; nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
             Do not Walk - Lifestyle
Do not stand - Align yourself
             Do not sit - Complacency
Do Not Walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Do not live your life according to the counsel of the ungodly. Who are the ungodly?  Psalm 10: 4 tells us, “God is not in all his thoughts.” The ungodly are not interested in God or in His ways. So do not follow their advice.  Do not imitate their lifestyle. The advice of the ungodly will not be in accordance with God’s Will for your life. Verse 6 of Psalm 1 tells us, “the way of the ungodly shall perish”. Their counsel will not profit a believer in Jesus Christ. The Lord knows the way of the righteous. Stay with God’s counsel – the Holy Spirit and His Word.

Do Not Stand in the way of sinners. Do not align yourself with the unbelievers’ lifestyle. Do not hinder sinners from coming to Christ by your behaviors. You do not want to discourage them from accepting God’s free salvation. Pay attention to your speech. Let not corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers. Ephesians 4:29
Note: Let us differentiate between an ungodly person and a sinner.   A sinner is one who has not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.  However, some acknowledge God as Soverign in the world and in their lives.  An ungodly person is a sinner, who does not recognize The Almighty God  in his or her life.

Do not Sit in the seat of the scornful. Do not join ranks with those who ridicule, or have contempt for others - whatever the reason. If you have a critical spirit rid yourself of it through prayer and obedience to the Holy Spirit.

The Positives (“This is the way, walk in it ..” Isaiah 30:21)

His delight is in the Law of the Lord - Verse 2
Enjoy reading the Word of God – the Bible. If you do not currently have an appetite for the Word of God, pray and ask God to give you the desire to read His Word. Write, key, or print a verse and keep it with you during the day. Memorize it and consider its message. The Web has many sites with the Word of God in various versions. Search with a few words of the verse or with the Book/Chapter and verse and you will find what you are looking for.

Meditate Day and Night.   Read and think upon the Word of God in the morning and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you in the quiet of the day. If mornings are not good for you choose the time of day that’s ideal for you. Think upon the Word at night through songs or through spoken or written biblical messages.

The Benefits Verse 3

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water. Your life will be refreshing. People will seek you out for advice and wisdom. You will speak hope into people’s lives. Your life will be a shade for the weary.

It brings forth fruit in its season. You will bear fruit – the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Do not rush God. He will grow you up and you will bear fruit in your season. Fruits that are forced ripe never taste good. How delicious are fruits picked ripe from the tree. Your family, friends, colleagues, your circle of acquaintances will enjoy your fruit.

Its leaf shall not wither. No depression. No negative attitude. The joy of the Lord is our strength. Nehemiah 8:10. You shall run and not be weary, you shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40: 31.

Whatsoever he does shall prosper. What ever you do - think about it - shall prosper. Do you want to be prosperous in 2013?   Start practicing Psalm 1: 1 and 2. Ask God to help you and He will. God wants you to prosper. Do not believe the enemy’s lie that God does not have your best interest at heart. God sent His Son the Lord Jesus to die for you and me to redeem us back to Himself. What a sacrifice!!  Our Lord Jesus’ death on the cross should be enough assurance for us that God cares about us immensely.

As I wrote above – verse 2 will take discipline and will power, but look at the results. It is worth it - What ever you do shall prosper. This is God’s Word!!!
