Reconciliation

Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In his famous “I have a dream” speech Dr. King spoke to reconciliation between blacks and whites, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics. Reconciliation produces harmony and peace.   Legislation cannot produce reconciliation only forgiveness can. We see this in the parable Jesus gave regarding a young man and his father in Luke 15: 11-32. The father had two sons and the younger son decided he would leave his father’s house. He asked his father for his inheritance. His father gave him his inheritance and he left home. No doubt, he left happy and had many dreams floating around in his head. His father was not happy. His son had left without his approval. He had transgressed his father’s will and intent.  The day came when the son met on hard times and had absolutely nothing in his possession. In the beginning God ...

January 1 is a new beginning. It is the first day of 2014. We have not been this way before. This is a new adventure for us all. We do not know what lies ahead of us. If we think upon this truth it can be a bit scary. We may have our plans. We may know what we desire to accomplish in 2014. However, the reality is, we do not know with any certaintywhat lies ahead of us. Genesis 1:1 tells us in the beginningGod created the heavens and the earth.  Have you taken a look towards the heavens recently? How vast it is. How magnificant it is. I love to travel by air, sit next to a window in the plane and watch the various forms of the clouds. Their beauty always take my thoughts to the One who created them. Psalm 19:1 declares: " The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork."  Take a look around you at nature as we call it - the trees, the snow in winter and beautiful blossoms and flowers in the spring and in the summer.
